Our Music track provides a wealth of choices from instrumental music to voice to beat production. Discover your form of musical expression with musicians who have toured the globe as well as provided music education across the nation for over 10,000 young people.

TPC University Subscriptions include access to over 250 pre-recorded asynchronous arts classes in all four arts areas. As a subscriber you will also have the opportunity to access our LIVE zoom classes at an additional cost.

K & 1st Grade

Capoeira Music of the Roda with Branch

Capoeira is the martial art disguised as a dance used by kidnapped Africans to gain their freedom during times of slavery. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to Capoeira’s culture through its history, music through its instruments, language through its songs and how this supports the capoeira roda.

 

Songwriting with Raliegh

Explore and learn the professional music industry language with the study of lyrics, melody, harmony and form to create songs. Simple computer tools will be used to aid in creating, hearing and notating your work. Everyone finishes the course completing one song documented with handwritten music notation of the song (lead sheet style) and a simple audio recording demonstrating the song. Just as songwriting teams share their monetary rewards, songwriting teams in this class will share their point “royalties.” The power of working alone vs together will be explored as related to its importance and nature to the business of songwriting. Materials needed: computer/laptop/chromebook/or ipad

2nd & 3rd Grades

Hip-Hop Emceeing with Safahri

We will dive into the depths of rhyming words and creating punchlines, flows, bars, lyrics, words within words, similes, metaphors, and creating hooks over new and old beats each class. Students will be encouraged to take a deep look at the history of poetry and rap from all over the world from the beginning of hip hop. Students will be asked to take influence from anything they have ever read, watched, heard, listened to, experienced, been moved by, overcome & been exposed to and break it down into a dope song during the semester. The final project will be of each individual student’s creation, adding to the legacy of the ever evolving hop hop universe.

4th & 5th Grades

Beats Boutique with Raliegh

This course is designed to explore and learn the professional language with regards to the study of Rhythm and the elements of Beat structure. The study will involve many genres from around the world including ones from the US and its Black Culture dating back through the human rights struggle throughout the last 100 years, for Example Jazz, Blues, R & B, Hip Hop and World Musics.

The program “Garage Band” on the iPad or Apple Computer will be used as the platform in creating, hearing and notating your work. Everyone finishes the course completing a portfolio of beats in a simple audio recording form. Just as production teams share their monetary rewards, Beat Making teams in this class will share their point “royalties.” Materials needed: computer/laptop/chromebook/or ipad with Garage Band

 

Piano with Raliegh

A  beginner course for students that are new to piano. Students will learn the notes on the piano and how to play simple songs. They will also learn beginning sight reading and theory. Materials needed: Piano/Keyboard

6th - 8th Grades

Power of Music with Ben

Examining great musical works and their impact and influence on society and the world. Exploring

the power of art to create positive and meaningful change in the hearts and minds of people around

the world. Students will be encouraged to look at the purpose and intention of music and art. We spend time learning our craft and instruments, studying theory and technique etc. But what does this mean in a real world sense and how can we use it? How can we use the skills we develop to convey a message and create more positive and just society? Which artists have done this in the past and how did they do it? We will survey several examples from many genres (hip hop, classical, reggae, soul, funk, african, indian, and more), styles, time periods, cultures and geographic locations.

 

Beat Making with Ranzel

By the end of this course, students will be able to teach and make their own projects based on the basic concepts of the Arts and Technology! They will have a fundamental understanding of creating and learning more complex Audio Production Techniques. Our AP(Audio Production) students will learn how to record and operate professional recording software. Students will come away with a greater knowledge of how to be creative, innovative, and confident that they can accomplish any goal or dream they put their mind to. Materials needed: computer/laptop/chromebook/or ipad 

 

Piano with Raliegh

Basic piano technique, simple reading, chords, song analysis and Music theory. Jazz piano, Blues structure, soul/R&B music. Will support different levels from beginner to advanced. Materials: Piano/keyboard

9th - 12th Grades

Jazz, Funk, and Rock Improvisation with Ben

This class will survey improvisational concepts, rooted and developed in jazz music, and then be applied to contemporary and popular musical styles. This class will be technique and theory focused. We will examine specific musical examples from Jazz theory, Jazz records, and specific solos, and how they can be used over more modern musical styles and why. Prior musical experience is suggested. All instruments invited!

 

The People’s Choir with Cava

The People’s Choir is a 14-unit course designed to introduce middle and high school students to the art of singing in an ensemble setting. Students will be exposed to a variety of genres of music ranging from jazz, soul, pop and world music. Additionally, students will strengthen their part-holding skills while learning about the essential musical components of singing in a choral setting. By the end of the course, students will have learned a total of 4 songs and be able to perform them with dynamic stage presence and delivery.
