Intro to Graffiti

One of the main elements of Hip-Hop Culture is the colorful revolutionary classic art of graffiti, which was originally created on the streets and subways of New York City. Its origins go all the way back to hieroglyphics in Africa and throughout many indigenous cultures. Since the late 70’s/early 80’s it has evolved into a world wide respected art form seen everywhere, from children’s books, to fashion, to the walls of your city. In Intro to Graffiti we will activate our creativity with graffiti style markers and paper to create arts pieces. Students will also learn to use their markers to create thick lines in colors to “pop”and add design to the inside of their letters based off of patterns, shapes, their imaginations, color mixes, and statements that they want to make with their graffiti piece. Materials needed: Thick Markers and paper
